Jewish life at Colgate is vibrant, welcoming, and full of excitement! The student-led Colgate Jewish Union leads services each Friday evening and cooks a kosher Shabbat dinner for the community. We have recently added a weekday morning service to our calendar. We offer full services for the High Holidays, erect a sukkah on the campus quad, host chanukiyah lightings all over campus, and feed over 200 students at sedarim! This year, we complemented our megillah reading with a latke-hamentashen debate and late-night (kosher) barbecue. The CJU also hosts monthly bagel brunches, the occasional havdalah service, community dinners and discussions, Israeli film nights and more. We strive to create a community which is open to all. Thanks to wonderful students, committed staff and a supportive administration, we have enjoyed great success. The Colgate Jewish community makes significant contributions to life at Colgate as it seeks to enrich students' experiences both as scholars and as Jews. We are also very active in interfaith work and frequently co-sponsor events with other religious groups.
