For more than 80 years, Houston Hillel has provided Jewish students with an avenue to express and embrace their Jewish identify and heritage. We operate student centers at both Rice University and the University of Houston. Our primary facility, the Ida and William Zinn Hillel Student Center, was purchased in 1997. This facility acts as both a student center and a community resource. The purpose of Houston Hillel is to encourage and actively sponsor activities that enrich the Jewish identity of Jewish students and faculty at Houston`s university and college campuses. Houston Hillel fulfills this purpose by organizing and/or supporting a broad array of Jewish social, religious, cultural, educational and community service programs. Houston Hillel also represents Jewish students and the Houston Jewish community to the administration of Houston`s institutions of higher learning and maintains visibility on the campuses in interfaith functions. Houston Hillel understands that programmatic diversity is the key to increasing student participation. As a result, Houston Hillel offers a wide variety of regular programming including: a Welcome Back BBQ, Weekly Services and Dinners, Festival Celebrations, a Jewish Student Music Recital, Jewish Student Art and Photo Exhibits, the Herzstein Jewish Medical Ethics Lunches, Campus Lunches, Jewish Legal Ethics Lunches, birthright israel trips to Israel, State-wide Hillel Retreats, Jews and Brews for graduate students and young professionals, Scholars-in-Residence and Social Action programs.
