Fiedler Hillel is the foundation for Jewish life at Northwestern University. Our mission is to inspire Jewish undergraduate and graduate students to make enduring commitments to Jewish life. Hillel provides limitless support and opportunities for students to own their Jewish identities, and be engaged by a Judaism that is relevant to their lives.
Fiedler Hillel boasts a large assortment of initiatives - a few examples include: schmooze, an edgy Jewish cultural magazine produced solely by students at Northwestern University and published by Fiedler Hillel and now distributed on over 40 campuses nationwide; the Jewish Theatre Ensemble, which creates four full-scale theatrical productions a year; outstanding leadership development initiatives; weekly free Shabbat dinners, myriad Passover seders held around campus, big-name speakers, and multiple alternative break trips to Latin America.
We were also the founders of a university-wide initiative making its way to campuses around the country called AskBigQuestions (www.askbigquestions.com). In a trail-blazing partnership, Fiedler Hillel serves as the sponsor of the Northwestern study abroad in Israel program. Our initiatives are creative, energizing, thought-provoking, pluralistic, and relevant. Hillel takes risks, has the highest of standards, and is driven to succeed.
In the last three years Hillel has quadrupled student involvement, doubled the size of its Board of Directors, and tripled fundraising. Our staff was recently called “one of the most effective Hillel staffs in the country," and our Hillel was recognized as an outstanding example of indispensable partnership with the university.
