Wheaton College Hillel is a member of the Hillel Council of New England Family. Wheaton Hillel is one of the most active student groups on campus, meeting weekly and partnering with academic departments and other student groups on campus to engage the community with educational and cultural events, and religious celebrations several times per month. Wheaton Hillel is staffed by part-time by the new Hillel Director Jake Freedman and is available to meet with students regarding personal or religious issues, as well as just to chat. Wheaton Hillel offers leadership opportunities such as the fall Student Leadership Conference in which student leaders from all over New England come together to share best practices and learn from experts in the field. Other campus activities include themed Shabbat dinners, hamentashen baking, boston wide galas and a purim party in addition to educational and cultural events.
In the past two years, student-lead Shabbat services have been held every other month. Additionally, faculty advisors from Wheaton`s academic departments (Religion, German, etc.) provide valuable guidance and resources to the Wheaton Community. While Wheaton`s Jewish population is small in size, there is great student participation and support from faculty, administration, and the regional Jewish community.
