Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) |
Mission Statement:
SPNI’s goal is to conserve Israel’s nature and precious open spaces, protect its environment and preserve its scenic, historic, and cultural sites on behalf of all Israelis and the world. Founded in 1953, SPNI has grown to become Israel's largest environmental NGO, with 100,000 members within the country and abroad. The 1990s changed Israel for all time. The immigration that increased Israel’s population (by 30%) and economy at unprecedented rates also contributed to a drain on water resources, increased land usage for housing and industrial development, and major transportation congestion and pollution issues. From educating and involving the public, lobbying decision makers and proposing alternative solutions to development plans, SPNI has had a profound impact. SPNI involves everyone – Jews, Christians, Muslims, young and old, poor and rich – in our efforts to share the respect, love and understanding of nature and land. SPNI invites you to come see Israel through our comprehensive hikes and tours and become involved in saving Israel’s environmental uniqueness through our volunteer projects.
