Explore Hillel at Queens University of Charlotte
Jewish Life at Queens University: Welcoming. Inspiring. Full of Opportunity. At Queens, Jewish life is vibrant, inclusive, and student-centered. We’re proud to cultivate a welcoming, pluralistic community where students from all backgrounds and affiliations can connect, grow, and lead. Whether you're looking to take on a leadership role through Hillel or simply want to be part of a warm and supportive Jewish community, you’ll find your place here. Queens Hillel is an integral part of campus life—backed by the full support of the university and enriched by Charlotte’s dynamic Jewish community. Led by our full-time Director of Hillel and Jewish Life, we offer programs that meet the social, cultural, and religious needs of Jewish students. From High Holy Days to Shabbat dinners and cultural celebrations, we bring students together to explore Jewish identity, tradition, and values—including a strong focus on Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Queens is also home to the Sklut Professor of Jewish Studies, who is both a beloved professor and a rabbi. Together with the University Chaplain, we promote meaningful interfaith engagement and thoughtful dialogue across faith traditions. Just minutes from campus, students also have access to Shalom Park—a 54-acre hub of Jewish life in Charlotte. Shalom Park houses Reform and Conservative synagogues, the Levine Jewish Community Center, and a wide range of Jewish organizations. It offers worship opportunities, internships, part-time jobs, and ways to connect with the broader Jewish community. For students who want to lead and make a difference, Queens offers two prestigious scholarships (The Gossett Jewish Leadership Scholarship and The Donald H. and Barbara K. Bernstein Scholarship for Jewish Leadership). Both support students eager to help grow Jewish life at Queens and make a lasting impact. Academically, our Jewish Studies minor offers a rich, interdisciplinary exploration of Jewish identity, history, culture, theology, and ethics. Courses—taught by the Sklut Professor—include Diversity and Identity in the Hebrew Bible, Holocaust in Film and Literature, and Human Rights and Social Responsibility. We’d love to connect with you!
